BURLINGTON, N.C. - The fourth seeded Methodist men's tennis team knocked off fifth seeded Greensboro Friday morning 8-1.
Methodist took the 3-0 lead after doubles with
Matthew Taylor and
Justin Campbell winning 9-8 (7-3) at number one.
Dylan Knox and
Rob Schmidt won 8-2 at number two and
Rob Currier and
Steven Burkett won 8-4 at number three.
Schmidt increased the lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number two singles. Greensboro won the number one singles match over Taylor 6-1, 6-2 but Methodist clinched the victory when Knox won 6-3, 6-3 at number three. Campbell won 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 1-0 (10-8) at number four.
The Monarchs advance to the semifinals to face top seeded N.C. Wesleyan Saturday at 9 am.
