FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist softball recognized the seniors from the program before making quick work of Mary Baldwin College with 14-1 and 4-0 wins.
The Monarchs took control early in game one scoring 10 runs in the first inning. Methodist put together nine hits with
Caline Daun,
Kayla Talbert and
Sara Poling hitting 2-for-2 in the inning. Mary Baldwin scored a run on two hits and a walk in the second, but Methodist came back and added four runs in the second inning capped off by
Jody Eyler's two-RBI single to center field.
Neither team scored for the remainder of the game as the Monarchs won 14-1 in five innings. Talbert finished 3-for-3 while
Darci Martin,
Cortney Kerns and Eyler were 2-for-2.
Emily Beck pitched the complete game win giving up just three hits with two strikeouts.
Both teams started out game two with no score through the first two and a half innings.
Brittany Melton drew a walk in the third and scored on
Darci Martin's double to left center for Methodist to take the 1-0 lead.
Kristina Wolfrom singled in the fourth inning and
Courtney Blann entered as a pinch runner. Blann moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a defensive error that allowed
Caline Daun to reach second. Melton doubled to left center for Daun to score. The Monarchs added another run in the sixth when Daun was hit by a pitch to lead off. She stole secondand scored on
Kayla Talbert's single to right center. The Monarchs held on for the 4-0 win to earn the sweep.
Martin went 2-for-3 on the day with one RBI.
Jennie Price earned the complete game shutout victory over the Squirrels allowing just three hits with four strikeouts.
Methodist will host Shenandoah on Sunday at noon in another USA South doubleheader.
