Methodist Comes Up Short to Sweet Briar

Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. - Methodist lacrosse fell behind early and ran out of time late as they fell 15-12 to Sweet Briar College.

Andrea DiStefano gave Methodist the 1-0 lead early but Sweet Briar scored the next three goals before Amber Jurkovac scored for the Monarchs. The Vixen went ahead 6-2 before Krystal Poirier scored on the assist from Diane Starrantino. Sweet Briar added two more goals to go ahead 8-3 but Jurkovac and Jasmine Stephens both scored in the final minute of the half to move within three goals.

Sweet Briar scored the first two goals ofthe second half before Starrantino added a goal for Methodist. The Vixen extended their lead to 13-7 but the Monarchs came back and scored two goals to cut the lead to four. With less than five minutes to go in the game, DiStefano moved the Monarchs within two, but Sweet Briar added an insurance goal and held on for the 15-12 win.

Jurkovac and DiStefano finished with three goals a piece while Starrantino had two goals and two assists. Poirier scored two goals with one assist and Stephens added two goals.

Lindsey Cosgray made 13 saves in goal for Methodist.

The Monarchs will face Greensboro in the USA South Tournament on Friday at 3:30 pm in Burlington, N.C.
