WILSON, N.C. - The Methodist University men's tennis team opened up with a 9-0 loss to NCAA Division II Barton College on Tuesday afternoon.
Barton took the early 3-0 lead after doubles. Methodist's
Matthew Taylor and
Robert Clayton lost 8-3 at number one doubles and
Reid Baker and
Steven Burkett lost 8-4 at number two.
Ricky Aybar and
Sean Teeter played a tight third doubles match, but fell 9-7.
Barton controlled the singles matches with Taylor dropping the number one match 6-3, 6-0. Clayton lost 6-0, 6-0 at number two and Baker lost 6-3, 6-1 at number three.
Eric Smith lost the number four match 6-0, 6-1 and
Warren Robinson lost 6-3, 6-2 at number five. Burkett finished with the 6-1, 6-2 loss at number six.
The Monarchs will travel to Pfeiffer on Friday for a 3 p.m. match.
