MISENHEIMER, N.C. - NCAA Division II Pfeiffer University opened up a 3-0 lead after doubles before picking up the 9-0 win over the Methodist University men's tennis team.

Matthew Taylor and Robert Clayton lost 8-4 at number one and Reid Baker and Steven Burkett lost 8-4 at number two. Ricky Aybar and Sean Teeter lost 8-2 in the third doubles match.

Taylor pushed the first set to a tiebreaker in the number one singles match but lost 7-6 (7-3), 6-0. Clayton lost 6-1, 6-3 and Baker lost 6-1, 6-2. Eric Smith fell 6-0, 6-3 at number four and Warren Robinson lost 6-3, 6-4 at number five. Burkett lost 2-6, 7-5, 10-7 at number six.

The Monarchs return to host Hampden-Sydney on Saturday in their home opener at 1:30 p.m.
