Men's Tennis Wins Two

Monarchs improve to 4-5 on the year

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - After rain canceled two matches on Thursday, the Methodist men's tennis team picked up two wins in Hilton Head, S.C. on Friday. The Monarchs shut out Eastern Nazrene 9-0 and won 5-4 over Wooster.

During the doubles competition, the Monarchs did not lose a game as they shut out the Crusaders 8-0 in every match. Matthew Taylor and Robert Clayton won 8-0 at number one and Reid Baker and Steven Burkett won 8-0 at number two. Ricky Aybar and Steve Strawn won 8-0 at number three.

Neil Perron and Sean Teeter kept up the shutouts with 6-0, 6-0 victories at five and six singles respectively. Taylor won 6-0, 6-1 at number one and Clayton won 6-1, 6-1 at number two. Warren Robinson won 6-2, 6-0 at number three and Brad Tulenko won 6-1, 6-1 at number four.

The Monarchs kept up the pressure against Wooster taking the 3-0 lead after doubles. Taylor and Clayton won 8-4 and Baker and Burkett won 8-2 at number two. Aybar and Strawn won 8-3 at number three doubles.

Wooster fought back with four wins in singles, but Taylor and Robinson clinched the match with wins. Taylor won 6-3, 6-1 at number one and Robinson won 6-4, 6-4 at number four. Baker lost 0-6, 4-6 at number two and Smith lost 4-6, 2-6 at number three. Burkett lost 1-6, 7-5, 7-10 at number five and Tulenko lost 1-6, 0-6 at number six.

Methodist returns to Fayetteville with a 3-2 record in Hilton Head. The team kicks off USA South action when they host Greensboro Tuesday at 3 p.m.
