FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah rattled off 11 runs in the first game of the 2010 NCAA Division III Baseball South Regional to cruise past Bridgewater 11-1.
The top-seeded Hornets broke open a scoreless game with three runs in the second after a bases-loaded single from Jon Holcomb scored all three runners.
It was all Hornets early as they scored seven runs through five innings off of Bridgewater's starter Alex Foltz. The Eagles' Drew Elkins tried to rally Bridgewater in the sixth with double and Devon Snow followed up with a single but both runners were left stranded.
Scott Van Dusseldorp hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth for Shenandoah before Bridgewater got on the board in the eighth with a solo home run from Devon Snow.
The Hornets wrapped up with two runs in the eighth to finish with the 11-1 win.
Jesse Henry led Shenandoah hitting 4-for-5. Greg Van Sickler was 3-for-5 at the plate and went eight innings on the mound to earn his eighth win of the season.
With the win, Shenandoah (35-8) advances to a 2:30 Thursday contest against the loser of the Mary Washington/York (Pa.) contest.
Bridgewater (23-19) will face the loser of the Salisbury/LaGrange game at 11 a.m. Thursday morning in an elimination game.
