Salisbury Avoids Elimination With 9-2 Win Over Bridgewater

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Bridgewater and Salisbury traded runs early, but Salisbury pulled away late to win 9-2 and avoid elimination in the 2010 NCAA Division III Baseball South Regional.

Devon Snow gave Bridgewater the early 1-0 lead in the third inning driving in Drew Easter with a double to the gap in left center. Salisbury tied the game in the fourth with a RBI single from RYan Smith. The Sea Gulls loaded the bases, but Casey Hartman forced the groundout to hold the tie.

The Eagles came back to regain the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth before Salisbury came right back to tie the game at two in the fifth capitalizing on two walks.

Salisbury took their first lead of the day with three runs in the sixth compliments of a sacrifice fly from Tim Kellinger and a two-RBI double by Mike Celenza. The Sea Gulls tacked on a run in the seventh and three in the eighth to extend their lead to 9-2 and stay alive in the tournament.

Matt O'Keefe hit 3-for-4 for the day while Brad Baylis went 3-for-5 for Salisbury.

Bridgewater's Devon Snow was 3-for-4 at the plate with a RBI.

Dustin Herbert picked up his seventh win of the season pitching 6.1 innings giving up two runs on eight hits. Drew Baldwin and Bill Morton preserved the win.

Casey Hartman went four innings for Bridgewater while Kevin Chandler took the loss with three innings of relief. Joseph Lucas pitched the final two innings.

Salisbury will play on Friday at 2:30 p.m. with their opponent still yet to be determined based on Thursday's 2:30 p.m. game between No. 1 Shenandoah and No. 4 York (Pa.).

Bridgewater finishes their season at 23-20-1.
