FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - York took the early lead, but Shenandoah roared back to take the 9-6 win in game five of the NCAA Division III Baseball South Regional.
York jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead rattling off four hits in the bottom of the first inning. Shenandoah cut the lead in half with a run in the second after a lead-off double from Greg Van Sickler, but the Spartans countered with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Shenandoah scored a run in the third with a RBI single from Jesse Henry before taking the 6-3 lead in the fourth with four runs on four hits. York cut the lead to two with a run in the fourth, but the Hornets opened up a five run lead in the sixth with three runs.
York loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and the eighth but tallied just one run to move within four runs at 9-5. The Spartans tried to rally in the ninth but came up short with one run to lose 9-6.
Shenandoah's Jon Holcomb, Jesse Henry and Keaton Neeb finished with three hits a piece.
Mike Connolly hit 3-for-4 with a RBI for York and C.T. Stanley was 3-for-5.
Jake Yocum went 4.2 innings to start on the mound while Mike Smith earned the win with three innings of relief. Kyle Scallion entered in the eighth with bases loaded to earn the save.
Andy Rosenweig took the loss on the mound pitching five and two thirds. Joey Couch and Brandon Ullom finished in relief.
York finishes their season 28-16. Shenandoah advances to face the winner of LaGrange and Mary Washington on Friday at 11 a.m.
