FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Shenandoah came out firing on all cylinders jumping out to the 1-0 lead and cruising to the 3-1 win over Methodist in the first round of the USA South Tournament.
Shenandoah went ahead 14-9 in the first set to set the tone. Methodist closed the gap to two at 19-17, but the Hornets went up 23-18. The Monarchs moved within three at 23-20, but Shenandoah finished with the 25-20 win. The second set went back and forth with neither team leading by more than two. Shenandoah led 21-20 when
Kalie Ludvigsen had back-to-back aces to put the Monarchs up 22-21. Methodist finished with the 25-23 win. Methodist jumped out to the 11-6 lead in the third set, but the Hornets came back to tie it up at 15. The set went back and forth with Shenandoah taking the set at 25-22. Errors proved costly in the fourth set as the Hornets jumped out to the 10-3 advantage. The lead was too much for the Monarchs to overcome as Shenandoah won 25-14.
Jalesty Washington led the Monarchs with 17 kills while
Lauren Bramble added 12.
Kayci Miller dished out 46 assists and paced the team with 13 digs.
Rachel Evans added 11 digs.
Methodist finishes the season with a 21-7 record, the most wins since 1988. Shenandoah advances to the USA South Tournament semifinals on Friday.
