ATLANTA, Ga. - The Methodist men's tennis earned a split in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday after dropping a 6-3 match to Oglethorpe and winning 7-2 over Covenant.
Methodist trailed 2-1 after doubles against Oglethorpe with
Matthew Taylor and
Duncan Miller earning the 9-7 win at number one.
Reid Baker and
Robert Clayton lost 4-8 and Steven Burket and
Sean Teeter lost 6-8.
Miller picked up the 6-3, 6-1 win at number two singles and
Brad Tulenko won 6-3, 6-2 at number six singles, but Oglethorpe finished with the four remaining matches to secure the win. Taylor lost 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 at number one and
Austin Wang lost 0-6, 4-6 at number three.
Greg Patterson lost 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 and Clayton lost 4-6, 2-6.
In the second match against Covenant, Methodist swept doubles with three wins. Taylor and Miller won 8-4 while Baker and Clayton won 8-5 and Burkett and Teeter won 8-3.
Taylor lost 7-5, 6-2 at number one singles and Miller lost 6-4, 6-4 at number two, but Methodist won three through six singles to finish with the 7-2 win. Wang won 6-2, 6-3 and Patterson won 6-1, 6-0.
Lawrence Salmon won 6-2, 6-1 and Tulenko won 6-0, 6-0.
The Monarchs move to 2-1 on the season and will finish their Georgia trip with a match against Piedmont on Sunday.
