VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Methodist women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener to Virginia Wesleyan 23-4.
The Marlins opened the game with a quick goal, but Methodist's
Jasmine Stephens countered with a goal off of a free position shot. Virginia Wesleyan rattled off 10 straight goals to take the 11-1 lead, but the Monarchs battled back to score three straight goals. Stephens scored her second and third goal of the game before
Abby Harmon got on the board with a goal in the final 10 minutes of the half. The Marlins added two more goals just before halftime to lead 13-4 at the break.
Virginia Wesleyan maintained control of the second half with 10 unanswered goals for the 23-4 victory. Methodist goalkeeper
Emily Forester finished with three saves and the Marlins' Brittany MacKnew made four stops.
Methodist will be back in action on Friday when they host Shorter College at 3:30 p.m.
