FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's tennis team hosted both Benedict College and Guilford College on Saturday finishing with two wins.
In the first match, the Monarchs swept Benedict 9-0.
Matthew Taylor and
Duncan Miller won 8-3 at number one doubles and
Austin Wang and
Robert Clayton also won 8-3 at number two.
Reid Baker and
Sean Teeter won the number three match 8-0.
Methodist finished the sweep in singles with six straight wins. Taylor won 6-4, 6-1 at number one and Miller won at number two. Wang won 6-0, 6-4 at number three and
Greg Patterson won 6-0, 6-0 at number four. Clayton won 6-0, 6-1 at five and
Brad Tulenko won 6-0, 6-0 at number six.
The Monarchs kept up the pressure against Guilford winning all three doubles matches 8-2. Taylor and Miller played number one while Wang and Clayton were at two. Teeter and Tulenko teamed up to earn the win at number three.
Taylor lost a tight three set match at number one singles 5-7, 6-3, 2-6. Miller and Wang both won 6-1, 6-0 at number two and three respectively. Patterson won 6-1, 6-2 at number four and Clayton won 6-2, 6-4 at number five. Tulenko won another shut out 6-0, 6-0 at number six.
The Monarchs will be back in action at Mount Olive on Thursday at 3 p.m.
