FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's tennis team held the 2-1 lead after doubles, but Averett came back to earn the 6-3 win.
Matthew Taylor and
Greg Patterson won 8-1 at number one and
Austin Wang and
Robert Clayton won 9-7 at number two.
Sean Teeter and
Reid Baker lost 8-1 at number three.
Averett won five of the six singles matches to clinch the win. Taylor lost 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 at number one and Wang lost 7-6, 6-0 at number two. Patterson lost 6-4, 6-2 at number three and Clayton lost 7-5, 6-4 at number four.
Brad Tulenko lost 6-1, 6-4 at number five.
Lawrence Salmon picked up a win at number six earning the 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 win.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Sunday in a make-up match at Greensboro at 2 p.m.
