FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's tennis team finished the regular season with an 8-1 victory over Virginia Wesleyan. Prior to the match, the Monarchs recognized seniors
Steven Burkett,
Sean Teeter and
Matthew Taylor in their final home match.
Methodist took the 2-1 lead after doubles when
Matthew Taylor and
Duncan Miller won 8-5 at number one and
Robert Clayton and
Steven Burkett won 8-2 at number three.
Sean Teeter and
Brad Tulenko lost a battle at number two 9-8 (15-13).
Taylor won 6-2, 2-0 and then retirement at number one and
Mark Tarentino won at number two by retirement.
Greg Patterson won 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 at number three and Clayton won 6-4, 6-1 at number four. Teeter won 6-1, 6-3 at number five and Burkett won 6-2, 6-1 at number six.
The fourth seeded Monarchs will open the USA South Tournament on Friday in Burlington N.C. at 9 a.m. against No. 5 Shenandoah.
