SWEET BRIAR, Va. - Methodist used a 6-1 run late in the second half to move within three goals, but Sweet Briar held on to finish with the 18-13 win.
Jasmine Stephens scored the first goal of the game before Sweet Briar took a 2-1 lead with five minutes played. Stephens tallied two more goals and
Amber Jurkovac put one on the board to give the Monarchs the 4-2 lead. The Vixen went on a 5-0 run midway through the half, but Jurkovac stopped the run with a goal with 7:31 remaining. Sweet Briar scored another goal in the final five minutes to lead 8-5 at halftime.
The Vixen opened the second half with five consecutive goals, but
Jessie Earp scored for the Monarchs with 24:11 left to play. Sweet Briar moved ahead 14-6 before
Brittany Brockway scored her first goal of the game. Sweet Briar scored another, but Methodist came back with four straight goals to cut the lead to 15-11. The Vixen countered with another goal, but Jurkovac cut the lead to three goals with back-to-back goals with 3:05 left to play. Sweet Briar closed the game with two goals in the final two minutes to earn the 18-13 win.
Stephens and Jurkovac finished with five goals apiece while Brockway added two goals and Earp scored one.
Dawn Sanderson made 15 saves in goal for the Monarchs.
