GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Methodist men's tennis team opened the 2011-12 season with an 8-1 win at Guilford College Friday afternoon.
Duncan Miller and
Austin Wang teamed up at number one doubles to win 8-5 while
Hans Baumstark and
Mikesh Desai won 8-5 at number two. The Monarchs finished the sweep at doubles with an 8-0 win from the number three doubles team
Robert Clayton and
Greg Patterson.
Miller dropped the first singles match 7-6, 6-3, but Methodist won the remaining five singles matches to seal the 8-1 win. Baumstark won 6-4, 6-1 at number two. Desai and Patterson won 6-2, 6-2 at number three and four singles respectively.
Lawrence Salmon won 6-3, 6-1 at number five and
Dillon Sullivan won 6-1, 6-2 at number six.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Emory & Henry College for a 10 a.m. match.
