FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's tennis team opened their spring competition against a talented NCAA Division II team in Mount Olive College before falling 7-2.
Mount Olive took the 2-1 lead after doubles. Methodist's
Duncan Miller and
Hans Baumstark won the first match 9-7 while
Robert Clayton and
Greg Patterson dropped the second match 9-7.
Mark Tarentino and
Dillon Sullivan lost at number three 8-2.
Baumstark finished the day with his second win after earning the 6-3, 6-4 win at number three singles. Unfortunately, the Trojans took the remaining five matches. Miller lost 6-3, 6-3 at number one and Patterson lost 7-6, 6-3 at number two. Sullivan lost 6-4, 7-5 at number fourand Clayton fell 6-3, 6-1 at number five. Tarentino lost 6-2, 6-0 at number six.
The Monarchs move to 2-1 on the season. They will be back in action next Saturday in Atlanta, Ga.
