ATLANTA, Ga. - The Methodist men's tennis team got back on track Saturday with two regional wins over Oglethorpe Univeristy and Piedmont College.
The Monarchs opened the day with an 8-1 victory over Oglethorpe. They started off with a 3-0 lead after doubles.
Duncan Miller and
Hans Baumstark won 8-1 at number one and
Greg Patterson and
Robert Clayton combined to win 8-4 at number two.
Dillon Sullivan and
Lawrence Salmon completed the sweep with the 9-7 win at number three.
Methodist won five out of the six singles matches including Miller's 6-1, 7-6 win at number one. Patterson won 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 at number two and Baumstark won 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 at number three. Wang dropped the fourth match 6-1, 3-6, 10-6, but Sullivan won 6-3, 6-3 at number five and Salmon won 2-6, 7-5, 10-2 at number six.
In the second match of the day, Methodist earned the 9-0 shutout against Piedmont College. Miller and Baumstark won 8-2 at number one doubles and Patterson and Clayton won 8-4 at number two. Wang and Sullivan won 8-1 at number three.
Miller won the first singles match 6-3, 6-0 and Baumstark won 6-1, 6-1 at number two. Wang won 6-2, 6-2 at number three and Sullivan won 6-1, 6-3 at number four. Salmon earned the 6-3, 6-1 victory at number five and
Mark Tarentino finished the sweep with the 6-0, 6-3 win at number six.
The Monarchs will be in action again on Wednesday when they host Chowan University at 3:15 p.m.
