FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist men's tennis team defeated their second NCAA Division II team in two days with a come from behind 5-4 win over Queens University of Charlotte.
The Royals are ranked No. 10 regionally in the Southeast for Division II and took the 2-1 lead after doubles.
Duncan Miller and
Hans Baumstark lost 8-5 at number one and
Greg Patterson and
Robert Clayton lost 8-3 at number two.
Austin Wang and
Dillon Sullivan earned the 9-7 win at number three doubles.
Queens took the first two singles matches knocking off Miller 6-4, 6-4 at number one and Patterson 6-2, 6-4 at number two to take the 4-1 lead. As darkness started to set in, the two teams traveled across town to finish under lighted courts. The Monarchs battled out four straight wins to earn the win. Baumstark won 6-2, 6-4 at number three and Wang won 7-6, 6-2 at number four. Sullivan lost his first set but came back to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 at number five and Salmon won 6-2, 6-4 at number six.
The Monarchs (6-1) will be back in action again Mar. 3 when they host Greensboro and Southern Virginia.
