DANVILLE, Va. - The Methodist men's tennis team won their fifth straight and first conference match of the season with a 7-2 victory over Averett University.
Methodist (11-2) took the 3-0 lead after doubles.
Duncan Miller and
Hans Baumstark won 8-1 at number one.
Robert Clayton and
Greg Patterson teamed up for the 8-6 win at number two while
Austin Wang and
Lawrence Salmon won 8-5 at number three.
Miller lost 6-4, 7-6 at number one singles and Baumstark lost 6-3, 6-3 at number two, but the Monarchs won the four remaining matches to secure the match win. Patterson won 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 at number three and Wang won 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 at number four.
Dillon Sullivan won 7-5, 6-3 at number five and Salmon won 6-1, 6-3 at number six.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Connecticut College at 3 p.m.
