Methodist Holds Off LaGrange

Box Score LaGRANGE, Ga. - The Methodist lacrosse team held off a late run by LaGrange College to earn the 12-9 win. The Monarchs won their second straight and move to .500 in the USA South Athletic Conference.

Methodist's Jasmine Stephens opened the scoring for the Monarchs within the first three minutes of play. Jessie Earp gave Methodist the 2-0 lead, but LaGrange came back with three straight to lead 3-2 with 15:48 remaining in the first half. Stephens scored two free position goals and Brittany St. Jacques got on the board to give Methodist the 5-3 advantage. The Panthers trimmed the lead to one, but the Monarchs scored four goals in the final five minutes to lead 9-4. LaGrange snuck one in during the final minute, but trailed 9-5 at the break.

Ashley Kiser opened the second half scoring before Caroline Linton and Stephens gave the Monarchs their largest lead of the game at 12-6 midway through the period. The Panthers rallied for the final three goals, but Methodist held on to win 12-9.

Stephens led the Monarchs with six goals. Earp had one goal and an assist. St. Jacques, Kiser, Linton, Arianna Earle and Hope Motahari added one apiece.

Catharine Savage made five saves for Methodist while Chelsea Totaro had 20 stops for LaGrange.

The Monarchs will be back in action on Saturday when they play at Agnes Scott College at 1 p.m.
