HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Methodist women's tennis team started their trek back up the east coast on Thursday before taking on Bridgewater College in Hilton Head Friday morning to wrap up spring break. The Monarchs won their fourth straight to finish the week undefeated and move to 8-2 on the season.
The match was a chance to face off against regional competition with the Monarchs ranked No. 8 and Bridgewater ranked No. 16 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll from the fall. Methodist took care of business with a 9-0 sweep over the Eagles.
Katherine Meindl and
Laura Baker won 8-5 at number one doubles and
Rachel Purser and
Dana Powell won 8-2 at number two.
Emily Talley and
Stacey Brooks won 8-5 at number three.
Methodist kept it up in singles with six straight wins. Meindl won 6-3, 6-1 at number one and Purser won 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 at number two. Baker won 6-0, 6-1 at number three while Powell won 6-0, 6-1 at number four.
Kelli Shelton didn't lose a game at number five winning 6-0, 6-0 and
Lauryn Justice won 6-1, 6-3 at number six.
Methodist will be back in action next Saturday when they travel to Averett University for their first USA South Athletic Conference match.
