MURFREESBORO, N.C. -- The Methodist men's tennis team began its spring campaign with a 9-0 win over Chowan on Sunday afternoon.
The Monarchs won all three doubles contests, two of them handily, to take and early 3-0 lead, then did not drop a set in singles play in posting the 9-0 whitewashing.
Dillon Sullivan and
Max Mancini each won 6-0, 6-0 at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Sullivan added to his perfect day by teaming with
Lawrence Salmon to post an 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles.
Duncan Miller and
Taylor Buchholz teamed up for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and Miller added a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, while Buchholz won, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
Greg Patterson and
Rob Clayton posted an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles and Patterson added a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
Teal Howard, playing at No. 4 singles, rounded out the day with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
The Monarchs are back in action on Saturday when they play at Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 pm.
