Hope Motahari scored seven goals and added one assist, but Agnes Scott prevailed over the Monarch women's lacrosse team, 22-11, on Sunday afternoon.
After the Scotties (2-3) took a 1-0 lead just 13 seconds into the contest, Motahari tallied her first goal of the game at the 26:37 mark to tie the contest at 1-1. AGC then used a 5-0 burst over the next 5:04 to assume a 6-1 lead on Alicia Logan's third goal of the game at the 21:33 mark.
Motahari answered just eight seconds later as she scored off a feed from
Cassie Walter to pull the Monarchs (0-4) within four (6-2) with 21:25 on the clock. The Scotties then went up 8-2 before Motahari scored again to make it 8-3 at the 16:05 mark. Agnes Scott answered with seven of the next eight goals to take a 15-4 lead into the break.
Walter found Motahari once again to open the second half, and
Jessie Earp converted on a free position shot as the Monarchs trimmed their deficit to nine (15-6) by the 24:57 mark. From there, the two teams traded goals back and forth, each scoring seven total in the second half, as AGC rode its first-half advantage to its first-ever win over MU.
Staci Periera played all 60:00 in goal for the Scotties and picked up five saves while allowing 11 goals in the win.
Ashley Cannon also played the duration for the Monarchs and came up with five saves as well.
In addition to her eight points, Motahari added a team-high five draw controls and forced a pair of turnovers. Earp finished with two goals and one assist and Walter had one goal, four assists, two ground balls and two draw controls.
Logan matched Motahari's seven goals to lead the Scotties. Monique Novoa added six goals for Agnes Scott and Caroline Recio chipped in four.
The Monarchs are back on the field on Saturday when they host Piedmont at 12:00 pm, followed by a 2:00 pm match with LaGrange on Sunday.
