Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-6 decision at the hands of LaGrange on Sunday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.
The Panthers (4-4) used an 8-0 scoring run over a 9:59 stretch in the first half to turn a 2-1 lead into a 9-1 advantage with 13:15 left in the opening period.
After LC had taken an early 2-0 lead, MU's
Hope Motahari scored an unassisted goal at the 22:30 mark to pull the Monarchs within a goal at 2-1. However, Kelsey Griffin scored for LaGrange at the 21:05 mark to spark the Panthers' scoring run. Five different players scored for LaGrange during the burst as it took command of the game.
Cassie Walter put an end to the run with back-to-back goals to pull the Monarchs to within six (9-3) by the 7:46 mark, but LaGrange scored the final two goals of the first half to take an 11-3 lead into the break.
LC opened the second half by scoring the first three goals to assume a 14-3 lead before Motahari found rope again to make it 14-4 with 15:02 to play.
Jessie Earp added a man-up goal for the Monarchs and Motahari tallied her third goal with 1:35 to play before Kristin Baird scored the game's final goal just before the horn sounded to end the game.
Chelsea Totaro played all 60:00 in the cage for the Panthers and came up with 14 saves.
Ashley Cannon was in goal for the Monarchs and made nine saves while picking up three ground balls.
Walter added an assist to go with her two goals as she and Motahari both finished with three points. Motahari also picked up a team-high six draw controls and recorded five ground balls. Walter added four ground balls and a pair of draw controls.
For LaGrange, Griffin posted a game-high seven points on three goals and four assists. Sophia Durand added four goals and one assist and Olivia Monroe, Tiffany Dillard and Alexis Dillard each scored three goals. Ashley Davis had a team-high seven ground balls and Griffin and Paige Castle came away with seven and five draw controls, respectively.
The Monarchs are back in action on Wednesday when they host N.C. Wesleyan at 4:00 pm.
