Monarchs Downed by Randolph, 19-5, in Women's Lacrosse

Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Methodist women's lacrosse team fell behind 13-1 in the first half en route to losing, 19-5, at Randolph College on Saturday afternoon.
 
The WildCats (1-2) stormed out of the gates, scoring four goals in the first 5:16 to take a 4-0 lead by the 24:44 mark. Danielle Haney tallied two of Randolph's first four goals. The score remained 4-0 until a Jessica Anderson goal at the 19:33 mark triggered another WildCat run. Anderson's goal was the first of seven WildCat goals in the next 5:17 seconds as Randolph increased its lead to 11-0 by the 14:17 mark.
 
The Monarchs got on the board with 10:00 to play in the opening period on Cassie Walter's unassisted tally, to make it 11-1. Randolph would score the final two goals of the half to go into the break up 13-1.
 
Jessie Earp made it a 13-2 game less than five minutes into the second period when she scored off a feed from  Walter. Walter added another unassisted tally several minutes later that put the score at 16-3 in favor of Randolph. Earp would assist on Zhane' Ruffin's goal with 5:42 left to play and she added the game's final goal with just 11 seconds on the clock for the 19-5 final score.
 
Ashley Cannon played all 60:00 in goal for the Monarchs and came up with eight saves on the day. Samantha Fagone and Sara Woodward split time evenly in the goal for the WildCats, combining to make seven saves. Fagone earned the win by making four saves against just one goal allowed in the first half.
 
In addition to her two goals and one assist, Earp added three draw controls, as did Walter. Katie McDowell and Hope Motahari each picked up a team-high two groundballs and Walter added a pair of caused turnovers.
 
Haney finished with five goals and three assist for the WildCats. Taylor Klevenz added three goals and four assists and Melanie Eisele and Ashley Edwards chipped in four goals apiece. Eisele and Jessica Anderson each had five ground balls and Klevenz came up with six draw controls.
 
The Monarchs are back in action on Sunday when they play at Sweet Briar at 1:00 pm.
