Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Methodist women's lacrosse team suffered a 25-3 loss at the hands of No. 16 Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon.
The Monarchs jumped on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead on
Hope Motahari's goal less than a minute into the contest. However, CNU answered with 12 unanswered goals over the next 12 minutes and change to take a 12-1 lead when Rachel Tomlinson fed Jessica Singer for a goal at teh16:06 mark.
Gabbi Tobias stopped the Captains run with an unassisted tally at the 14:04 mark to make it 12-2 in favor of CNU, but Christopher Newport reeled off six more goals before the break to take an 18-2 lead into halftime.
In the second half, CNU scored the first six goals of the period to open up a 24-2 lead before Motahari found
Zhane' Ruffin for the Monarchs' final goal of the game with 10:44 to play.
Ashley Cannon played all 60:00 in goal for MU and made five saves. Hanna Slough started in the cage for the Captains, playing the first 37:07 and allowing two goals while making three saves. Hannah Wilkerson played the final 22:53 and did not make a save.
In addition to her goal, Ruffin led the Monarchs with three ground balls, while Motahari added two and a pair of draw controls.
Morgan Artis chipped in two ground balls and two draw controls as well.
For CNU, Ashton Marshall (4g, 1a) and Lauren King (2g, 3a) tallied five points apiece. Nina Stinson added four goals. Kirsten Mendelsohn came up with a game-high four ground balls and Becca Geist and Shannon Fluharty each had four draw controls.
Methodist is back in action on Wednesday when it plays at Ferrum 4:00 pm.
