ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- The third-seeded men's tennis team posted a 5-1 win over No. 6 Ferrum on the first day of the USA South Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday afternoon.
Forced to move indoors due to rain, the Monarchs made quick work of the Panthers, winning all three doubles points before posting wins a Nos. 2 and 3 singles to clinch the win.
Duncan Miller and
Taylor Buchholz teamed up for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles. The duos of
Greg Patterson/
Rob Clayton and
Dillon Sullivan/
Lawrence Salmon each posted 8-1 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles, respectively.
Ferrum got on the board with Chris Miller held off
Duncan Miller at No. 1 singles (7-6, 6-1) before Patterson won at No. 2, 6-2, 6-0 and
Teal Howard rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 for the win.
Methodist will now take on second-seeded Christopher Newport on Saturday at 10:00 am.
