Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Chowan women's lacrosse team ended the game on a 5-1 scoring run to pull out a 16-12 win over Methodist on Saturday afternoon at Monarch Stadium.
Methodist concludes its season at 1-11 overall while Chowan now sits at 2-12 on the year.
After trailing 10-6 going into the break, the Monarchs opened the second half with a 4-0 scoring burst, including a pair of goals by
Hope Motahari, to tie the game at 10-10 with 25:19 to play. The Hawks responded with a Mackenzie Reid to Kamile Smith goal at the 19:50 mark to take an 11-10 lead before Motahari found
Jessie Earp for a goal just 25 seconds later to tie the game back up at 11-11.
However, the Hawks ceded just one goal the rest of the way, while scoring five of their own, including three tallies from Kamile Smith, to eke out the four-goal win.
Chowan looked as though it was prepared to put the game away early after taking a 6-1 lead on Reid's fourth goal of the game at the 13:17 mark of the first half. The Monarchs managed to stay within striking distance, outscoring Chowan 5-4 heading into the break.
Gabbi Tobias and Motahari scored twice for the Monarchs heading into the break.
Motahari led the Monarchs with seven points on six goals and one assist. Tobias and Earp tallied two goals apiece and
Cassie Walter chipped in a goal and three assists. Earp also picked up a team-high four ground balls and
Morgan Artis and Walter added three apiece. Motahari also came away with a team-high eight draw controls and forced a pair of turnovers.
For Chowan, Reid and Smith scored six goals apiece and Reid also had two assists. Adriea Herndon led the team with five ground balls and Cindy Escobar had six draw controls.
The Monarchs have now concluded their 2013 season.
