FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For the second weekend in a row, the Methodist traveled up to the state of Virginia to play regionally-ranked competition. On Sunday the Monarchs lost to Christopher Newport and No. 28 Mary Washington by 5-4 and 9-0 margins, respectively.
 
In the opening match against the Captains (1-0), Methodist picked up wins from its No. 1, 5 and 6 singles players. At the top of the lineup, Duncan Miller earned the victory against Chiraag Sheety, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, and Teal Howard won at No. 5 in three sets versus Joey Manilla, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1. Max Mancini picked up the win at No. 6 by defeating Michael Dodd, 7-5, 6-4.
 
John Dangerfield and Jacob Groce accounted for MU's lone doubles victory at No. 3 against Michael Dodd and Joona Rahko, 8-5.
 
Later in the day, Methodist (2-3) squared off against the 28th-ranked Eagles (2-0) and fell, 9-0.
 
The Monarchs are set to return to the courts on Feb. 22 at USA South opponent Greensboro. Match play is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
