ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Methodist men's tennis team played two matches on Saturday as part of the Southern Shootout hosted by Oglethorpe University. The Monarchs lost to Birmingham-Southern, 5-4, but later won against Rhodes, 7-2.
 
In its match against the Panthers, Methodist claimed victories in No. 1, 3 and 6 singles. At the top of the lineup, Duncan Miller won at No. 1, 6-3, 7-5, and Greg Patterson topped his opponent, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3. Teal Howard was victorious at No. 6, 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 10-7.
 
Taylor Buchholz and Miller accounted for the Monarchs' lone doubles victory at No. 1, 8-5.
 
Playing against the Lynx later in the afternoon, Methodist (6-4) won all of its doubles matches as well as four-of-six singles matches.
 
Miller won once again at No. 1 singles, 4-6, 6-4, 10-8, and Buchholz defeated his opponent, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2. Patterson bested the competition at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0, and Howard won, 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, at No. 5.
 
Buchholz and Miller paired up at No. 1 doubles and won, 8-6. Patterson and Sullivan claimed the victory at No. 2, 9-7. In the No. 3 doubles match, Howard and Max Mancini won, 8-3.
 
The Monarchs will continue their trip down in Georgia on Sunday with a matchup against Oglethorpe. The action is set to start at 9:00 am.
