Ferrum Ousts Methodist Women's Lacrosse From USA South Tournament, 19-5

Box Score FERRUM, Va. -- The sixth-seeded Methodist women's lacrosse team fell, 19-5, at third-seeded Ferrum College in the quarterfinal round of the USA South Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Panthers scored the first 11 goals of the game, including four from Sydney Hewartson, in taking an 11-0 lead by the 2:39 mark of the first half. Methodist finally got on the board when Hope Motahari scored with 23 seconds to play in the first half.
 
Motahari added two more goals in the second half, and Cassie Walter scored twice, but Ferrum's run to begin the game proved too much to overcome.
 
Ferrum held a 24-8 advantage in shots on goal, forcing MU's Ashley Cannon into making five saves. The Panthers also held a 17-9 advantage in draw controls, and a 17-14 edge in ground balls. Amanda Cheney earned the win for Ferrum in goal, making three saves in 53:14.
 
Walter added three ground balls as did Madison Antor. Sareena Coleman and Walter both secured three draw contols, and Motahari and Antor each had two caused turnovers.
 
Hewartson finished with eight points on five goals and three assists, and Shannon Brown added five goals. Lauren Blankenship chipped in a pair of goals and three assists. Brown and Blankenship came up with seven and six draw controls, respectively.
 
The Monarchs' season has now concluded.
