FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's tennis team bested Averett University, 8-1, on Friday afternoon at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

Methodist (5-3) picked up all three wins in doubles play, starting with an 8-1 victory for
R.J. Clement and
Taylor Buchholz on court one. Court two saw
John Dangerfield and
Dillon Sullivan best James Wright and Alexander Terentiev, 8-2, and
Teal Howard and
Max Mancini was handed a win by default.

In singles play, the Monarchs won all but one match. At No. 1, Clement topped Nicolas Quevado, 6-2, 6-2 and at No. 3, Dangerfield won 6-3, 6-3 over Terentiev. Sullivan won the No. 4 spot, defeating Carlos Lora 6-0, 6-2 and Howard won 6-1, 6-1 over Rustam Aliev in the No. 5 match. In the No. 6 spot,
Kyle Mersereau picked up a win by default.

The Monarchs continue home action on Saturday as they host Juniata College at 11:00 am.
