ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Methodist men's tennis team grabbed an 8-1 win over Huntingdon on Saturday in the USA South tournament semi finals, advancing the Monarchs to the championship match against No. 1 seed, N.C. Wesleyan on Sunday beginning at 8 am.
 
The Monarchs grabbed an early 2-1 lead in doubles play, as R.J. Clement and Teal Howard teamed up to edge Sebastian Florez and Meyer Schwatzberg, 9-7, at No. 2 and John Dangerfield and Jacob Groce defeated Tyler Chaffee and Trey Pirtle, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.
 
Taylor Buchholz recorded the Green and Gold's first singles point, besting Florez, 7-5, 6-0, in the No. 2 spot. Methodist went up 4-1 with a 6-2, 6-2 win from Kyle Mersereau over Aaron Triplett on court six. At the top spot, R.J. Clement clinched the win for Methodist with his 7-5, 6-3 defeat of Bobby Foroughian. At the fifth spot, Teal Howard posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Schwartzberg.
 
The last two matches off the court were both close battles. Dillon Sullivan came from behind and won, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) and clinched the No. 4 singles match over Zac Baldwin, while Dangerfield wrapped up the scoring for MU with a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) win over John Jones at No. 3.
