ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The second-seed Methodist men's tennis team fell to the top seed N.C. Wesleyan, 8-1, on Sunday in the USA South Conference Tournament championship match.
 
The Battling Bishops jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. Fabio Pereira and Anders Gomez got an 8-2 win over John Dnagerfield and Jacob Groce at No. 3 doubles, while Eduardo Ugalde and Fernando Nardelli bested R.J. Clement and Teal Howard 8-2 at the second spot. At No. 1 doubles, Robert Kjellberg and Sebastian Sikh topped Taylor Buchholz and Dillon Sullivan, 8-2.
 
At the third singles spot, Pereira bested Dangerfield 6-2, 6-1 to increase the NCWC lead to 4-0. On court four, Nardelli topped Sullivan 6-1, 6-3 to clinch the match and at No. 5, Gomez pushed the Bishops ahead, 6-0, with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Howard. At the top spot, Kjellberg defeated Clement, 6-3, 6-2, and at No. 6, Ugalde grabbed a 6-2, 6-0 win over Kyle Mersereau.
 
The final singles match on court two saw Taylor Buchholz earn Methodist's only point, earning a 6-4, 6-4 victory over USA South Rookie of the Year, Sikh.
 
Representing MU on the All-Tournament team were Clement and Buchholz. The Monarchs finish as the tournament runner-up and 13-5 overall.
