FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Monarch men's tennis team notched a 9-0 shutout against Ferrum on Wednesday to improve to 10-4 overall and 6-2 in conference, while Ferrum falls to 3-10 on the season and 1-7 in conference play.
Methodist gained an early advantage in Wednesday's match, claiming all three doubles matches. At No. 1,
Taylor Buchholz and
Dillon Sullivan blanked Taylor Napier and Garrett Freese, 8-0, and at No. 2
R.J. Clement and
Teal Howard teamed up to defeat Kevin Minter and William Sharp, 8-1. In the third matchup,
John Dangerfield and
Jacob Groce won, 8-1, over Danny Keo and Chris Madonna.
Playing at the top spot in the singles lineup, Clement notched a 6-0, 6-0 win over Napier and Buchholz topped Freese, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2. Dangerfield grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 win over Minter at No. 3, and in the fourth matchup Sullivan bested Keo, 6-0, 6-0. Howard cruised by William Sharp, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 and at No. 6
Kyle Mersereau downed Eddy Fones, 6-0, 6-0.
Methodist continues home play on Saturday as it hosts LaGrange at 11 a.m.
