FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist men's tennis team snapped its losing streak on Friday afternoon, cruising to an 8-1 win over visiting Virginia Wesleyan College at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

The Monarchs (5-4) swept doubles play and jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, with its first win coming from the No. 2 line, where
Taylor Buchholz and
Jacob Groce teamed up to defeat Drew Tomajczyk and Brendan Kelleher, 8-3. At No. 1,
Teal Howard and
R.J. Clement bested Graham Wilson and Adam Rosemblaum, 8-2, before
Michael Jones and
John Dangerfield topped Kenneth Downing and Spenser Bullock, 8-2, at No. 3.

In singles play, MU grabbed all but one win. At No. 6,
Max Mancini defeated Frank Batten, 6-2, 6-0 before Groce clinched the match for the Green and Gold at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Jake Morgan. At the No. 2 line, Buccholz bested Tomajczyk, 6-3, 6-2, before Willson topped Clement, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 1. Next to finish was Dangerfield at No. 4, who earned a 7-5, 6-3 win over Kelleher and the last win of the day came from the No. 3 line where Howard edged Bullock 7-5, 7-5.

Methodist will compete again at home on Sunday as they host Greensboro College beginning at 1:00 pm.
