FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist men's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over the visiting Pride of Greensboro College on Sunday afternoon at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.
The Monarchs (6-4, 3-0 USAS) quickly jumped ahead, 3-0, after doubles play. At No. 1,
Teal Howard and
R.J. Clement defeated Greensboro's (0-6, 0-4 USAS) Adam Morgan and Justin Kimball, 8-1, before
Michael Jones and
John Dangerfield blanked Kevin Nichel and Jervis Garcia, 8-0. The final doubles match to finish saw
Taylor Buchholz and
Jacob Groce team up to best Carlos Barragan and Warren Washington, 8-2.
In singles play, Dangerfield picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Washington before Howard clinched the match for the Green and Gold at the No. 3 line, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Morgan. At No. 2, Buchholz topped Kimball, 6-1, 6-0, and then at No. 1, Clement won, 6-1, 6-0, over Barragan. The final two singles matches of the day came from the No. 5 and No. 6 lines, where Groce and Mancini blanked their oppnents, Nichel and Garcia.
Methodist will host Maryville on Mar. 25 beginning at 2:00 pm.
