RALEIGH, N.C. – The Methodist men's tennis team notched its fourth consecutive shutout-win with a 9-0 blanking of William Peace University on Wednesday afternoon. The Monarchs are now 9-4 overall and remain undefeated in conference play, 6-0.
Taylor Buccholz and
Jacob Groce quickly gave Methodist a 1-0 lead as they dispatched Tyler Youngblood and Will Hall at No. 2, 8-0, before
John Dangerfield and
Max Mancini bested Michael Sevago and Elijah Wood, 8-1. The Monarchs's next point came at the top spot courtesy of
R.J. Clement and
Teal Howard's 8-1 win over Patrick Ralph and Davis Felts.
Methodist allowed the Pacers (1-9, 1-6 USAS) to tally just one point in one set in all singles matches. Clement was as efficient in singles as he was in doubles, downing Ralph at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0, before Mancini clinched the match for the Monarchs at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-0 blank of Sevago.
At No. 5, Groce won over Hall and Buccholz topped Felts at No. 2. Howard dispatched his opponent, Wood, at No. 3 before Dangerfield grabbed the last win for MU at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, over Youngblood.
The Monarchs will travel to LaGrange, Ga. to take on host LaGrange College on Saturday starting at 11:00 am.
