ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The Methodist men's tennis team completed its 2016 season on Sunday afternoon, falling 8-1 to the Battlin' Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan in the USA South Conference Tournament finals.
The Monarchs finished their season with an overall record of 13-6 while the Bishops continue to the NCAA Tournament with a 14-6 overall record.
Methodist's lone win came from the No. 3 line where
Teal Howard battled against J.D. Telles, 6-7 (4-6), 7-6 (11-9), before Telles retired.
Taylor Buchholz came close to snagging a match at No. 2, coming back to win 6-4 in the second set after losing the first set, 6-4, but Ioannis Brokakis won the tie breaker, 10-4.
Both Howard and Buchholz were named to the All-Tournament Team.
