FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist men's tennis team concluded 2016 regular season play on Saturday afternoon, picking up an 8-1 win over Ferrum College at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.
With the win, the Monarchs improve to 12-5 overall and 9-1 in conference while Ferrum falls to 8-7 over and 4-5 in league play.
Before the match, Methodist honored its five seniors, Taylor Buccholz,
Max Mancini,
Seth Grant, Kyle Merserau and
Teal Howard.
In doubles play,
Taylor Buchholz and
Max Mancini teamed up to edge Kevin Ramirez and Anh Hoang, 9-7, and
R.J. Clement and
Teal Howard topped Taylor Napier and Connor Moncure, 8-3.
In singles, Buccholz earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ramirez at No. 2 before Clement defeated Moncure, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1. At No. 4,
Kyle Mersereau clinched the match for Methodist with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Napier. Howard edged Hoang, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 3 before
Seth Grant won, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6 over Caleb Bellamy. The final win of the day came from the No. 5 line where Mancini beat Danny Keo, 6-3, 6-4.
