STAUNTON, Va. -- The Methodist women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory against Mary Baldwin on Sunday morning.
 
With the win, the Monarchs improve to 10-6 on the season with a 3-0 mark in league play. Meanwhile, the Fighting Squirrels fall to 0-7 overall behind an 0-3 record inside the USA South.
 
In doubles competition, MU won each match 8-0. The tandem of Jenna Landis and Sam Munze dropped Alayah Austin and Sakurako Ishii at the first slot while the team of Davi Barbour and Ashton Walker defeated Azaria Marlowe and Esperanza Cadena. In the third position, the pairing of Sam Carr and Aly Andrews earned a victory over Shyonia Wheeler and Shaina Riddle.
 
The Monarchs also won all six singles matches by an 8-0 tally. Due to poor forecasted weather, the match was contested in eight-game matches instead of three sets. At first singles, Walker defeated Austin, while Munze dropped Ishii at the second position. Barbour earned a shutout against Cadena at the third slot, while Allison Himes dropped Marlowe at fourth singles. Andrews defeated Riddle at the fifth slot before Carr closed the match sweep with a victory against Wheeler at sixth singles.
 
Methodist returns to action Thursday, March 30, as it travels to face Meredith beginning at 3 pm.
