LaGRANGE, Ga. -- The Methodist men's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2017 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament after earning an 8-1 victory against Piedmont on Thursday morning.

With the win, the Monarchs move to 13-3 on the year, while the Lions end their season with a 10-9 mark.

In doubles play, the pairing of
Wynn Johnson and
John Dangerfield defeated Robbie Werner and Bryan Barnett 8-2 before
Jacob Groce and
Brock Ebersole defeated Kanler Cumbass and Harrison LaBollita, 8-6, at the third slot.
R.J. Clement and
Jacob Oehser fell to the team of Nathan Metzger and Jackson Hill, 8-4, at the first position to close doubles.

Johnson finished with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Barnett at the third singles position, while Dangerfield moved past LaBollita, 6-2, 6-2, at the fifth slot. Clement clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win against Metzger, while Oehser picked up a 6-1, 6-3 win against Hill at the second slot. Groce earned a 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) win over Werner at sixth singles, as
Reid Rose finished the day with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Cumbass at the fourth slot.
