DANVILLE, Va. -- The Methodist men's tennis team closed its regular season by dropping a 6-3 contest to Averett on Saturday afternoon.
With the result, the Monarchs drop to 12-3 overall with a 7-3 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, the Cougars improve to 10-4 on th year behind a 7-2 record in league play.
In doubles, the team of
Jacob Groce and
Brock Ebersole picked up the only win with an 8-3 decision against Abdugani Ganiev and Nicolas Quevedo at the third slot.

In singles,
R.J. Clement earned a 6-3, 6-2 win against Caius Blomqvist at the top slot, while the Cougars earned a win at each of the next four positions. Ebersole claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win at the sixth slot against Carlos Lora.
Wynn Johnson fell 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 against James Wright at third singles, while Groce dropped a 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 contest to Quevedo at the fifth position.
Methodist returns to action at the USA South Tournament that will begin on April 13 in LaGrange, Georgia.
