Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist University men's tennis team moved past Lynchburg, 8-1, in its spring season opener at the Gene Clayton Courts on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Monarchs start the year 1-0, while the Hornets drop to 1-1 overall.
 
In doubles play, the team of RJ Clement and Hayden Wilfong defeated Juan Borga and Dominick Gutierrez, 8-2, at the second slot, while Wynn Johnson and Kayhahn Alikhani dropped Nick Savino and Colton Mullins, 8-1, at the third position.
 
The Monarchs swept singles play beginning with Clement's 6-3, 6-2 win over Borga at first singles and Jacob Oehser defeating Zack Shane, 6-2, 6-2, at the second slot. Coleman Baker picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win against Will Nsoesie at the third position before Reid Rose fought by Luke Sablik, 7-6, 6-1. Trent Harner moved past Gutierrez, 6-0, 6-1, and Wilfong earned a 6-2, 6-0 win against Savino at the sixth slot.
 
Methodist returns to action on Feb. 16, against Millsaps in Newport News, Virginia, beginning at 3 pm.
