NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Methodist men's tennis team was defeated by Millsaps, 8-1, on Friday night.
With the result, the Monarchs drop to 1-1 on the season, while the Majors improve to 3-0.
Millsaps swept all three doubles matches. The team of RJ Clement and
Hayden Wilfong dropped a hard-fought 9-8 match to Jacob Niehaus and Cameron Doles at the third slot. The Majors took first and second doubles by an 8-3 and an 8-5 decision, respectively.
In singles play, Wilfong picked up the lone win of the night in the sixth slot with a 6-7, 6-2, 13-11 win against Niehaus.
Wynn Johnson took Josh Shearin into a third set at the fourth position, but fell 7-6, 4-6, 10-2.
Trent Harner also forced a third set in a 6-1, 1-6, 10-7, decision to Avinash Ananth.
Methodist is back on the courts against Christopher Newport on Saturday, Feb. 17.
