Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Methodist men's tennis team avenged a loss from earlier this season as it defeated Averett, 6-3, at the Gene Clayton Courts on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Monarchs are 5-5 on the year and 1-2 in league play. While the Cougars drop to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
In doubles, the team of
Hayden Wilfong and RJ Clement picked up the lone win with an 8-5 count against Douwe Sternfeld and Felipe Andreazza at the second slot. Averett took first and third doubles both by 8-6 counts.
In singles action, Clement defeated Nicolas Yanes, 6-0, 7-5, at the top slot before
Trent Harner dropped Henry Blano, 6-1, 6-0, at the fourth position.
Wynn Johnson and Wilfong also picked up wins at 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-2, respectively.
Coleman Baker battled to a 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 win at second singles over Andreazza.
Methodist returns to action tomorrow, March 18, against Greensboro at 1 pm.
