FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.  Methodist's men's tennis team opened its 2018-19 season with the kickoff to the fall portion of their schedule -- the annual Methodist Fall Invitational that ran Friday through Sunday, September 7-9 at the Gene Clayton Tennis Center.

The three-day event included five flights of doubles action and 12 flights of singles competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Among the top flights, Wynn Johnson, Coleman Baker, Trent Harner and Jacob Oehser stood out for the Monarchs.
• Baker and Harner teamed up to finish second in the No. 1 doubles flight Friday evening, falling to Aditya Iyer and Jesus Gil of North Carolina Wesleyan, 8-6, in the championship match.
• Johnson and Oehser dropped their opening match in that same doubles flight before rebounding with a pair of wins that earned the duo a fifth-place finish.
• Saturday brought the singles flights to the courts. Johnson, in the No. 1 flight, earned a seventh-place finish, Baker was seventh in the No. 2 flight, Harner was second in the No. 3 flight and Oehser was fourth in the fifth flight.

• No. 2 doubles – Hayden Wilfong and E.J. Stolmeijer, fourth place; Max Linder and Joshua Deutsch, eighth
• No. 3 doubles – Jonathan Fintak and AJ Rogers, fifth; Harrison Bitzberger and Alex Lycan, seventh
• No. 4 doubles – Jack Holloway and Kayhahn Alikhani, fourth; Spencer Kieft and Samir Tewari, fifth
• No. 5 doubles – KJ Hardie and Justin Tegen, eighth
• No. 3 singles – Wilfong, fifth place
