WINSTON SALEM, N.C. Methodist's men's and women's indoor track & field teams began the meat of their indoor season schedule Sunday at the 2019 JDL January Kick-Off Meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jimlyn Laurent got the Monarch women off on the right foot in the morning's first event with a time of 8.14 seconds in the qualifying rounds of the women's 60-meter dash.
- Dennis Wright posted a time of 7.32 seconds in the men's 60m qualifying heats.
- The men's 4x800-meter relay quartet then posted one of the highest finishes of the day for Methodist as Stephen Dukes, Erran Greene, Jeremy Prichard and Connor Ayers combined for a second-place time of 8 minutes, 13.40 seconds. The event winners from Virginia State edged the Monarchs by just 1.14 seconds.
- Greene later posted a second-place finish in the men's 600-meter run with a time of 1:23.67.
- Nathan Zauner and Prichard each registered a fifth-place finish in their respective events. Zauner's was in the 3,000-meter run (9:39.10) and Prichard's was in the 400-meter dash (50.59). Zauner's time was a personal best.
- Registering a pair of top-five finishes for the Methodist women was Makayla Lawler. Early in the meet she placed fifth in the 600 with a time of 1:48.70, and later in the afternoon she was fourth in the mile with a time of 5:39.96.
- Dukes was 10th in the men's mile with a finish of 4:42.98.
